Jaydon’s first Geocache

For those of you who do not know, Geocaching is a scavenger hunt type of game played with your computer and a GPS.

Using a computer log onto geocaching.com and search for geocaches in your area. A map of your location will show green icons indicating geocaches hidden at that location.

By clicking on the green icons you would receive information on the type of geocache and it’s GPS coordinates as well as clues and notes left by other geocachers that found the cache.

Input the geocaches GPS coordinates into your phones GPS or into an actual GPS device and then head out to the location to search for the cache.

Some geocaches are small and others are large. The size as well as how well it was hidden indicates the difficulty in finding the cache.

Jaydon Geocaching

Jaydon, daddy and mommy find a Geocache at Palmetto Islands County Park.

The geocache we found was big and located in the woods of Palmetto Islands County Park. It contained a log book that we had to sign and several items called swag to trade.

Using my phone and the Geocaching app I logged my find on geocaching.com.

According to Geocaching.com, there are 1,824,223 active geocaches and over 5 million geocachers worldwide.

Geocaching is a lot of fun and a great way to turn a family outing into an adventure.
