Star Wars Reads Day at the Charleston Library

Today is Star Wars Reads Day and all over the universe, or at least the United States, libraries and book stores celebrate Reading and Star Wars.

At the Charleston County Public Library I was able to meet some of the Star Wars cosplay volunteers. Members of the 501st Legion an all-volunteer organization seeks to promote interest in Star Wars through the building and wearing of quality costumes, and to facilitate the use of these costumes for Star Wars-related events as well as contributions to the local community through costumed charity and volunteer work.

The Star Wars Reads Day was a huge success at the Charleston County Public Library. We estimated over 500 people and children came to be apart of the event. The children participated in a costume parade, made foam lightsabers, interacted with the 501st and watched The Clone Wars movie in the libraries teen room. Both the 501st and the library are already planning next years event.

Near the end of the Star Wars Reads Day event I was able to talk to some of the 501st volunteers.

I had the opportunity to meet our new network administrator R2D2 at work today.

My son Jaydon dressed up as a little Vader and joined in on the fun and activities.
