Running, jumping, activities and characters at Wonderfest

Jaydon, Daddy and Mommy have a great time at The Kids Run & Wonderfest in Hampton Park.

The Kids Run & Wonderfest is a children’s festival set the day before the Cooper River Bridge Run. Children get to participate in activities, enjoy some great food and run a shot distance or all the way up to a mile in their very own race.

Jaydon’s new Best Friend of Charleston

Last Monday Jaydon and Daddy help celebrate the return of the “Best Friend of Charleston” train back to Charleston. The train, on the back of a tractor-trailer, made a 6-hour stop in at the Summerville-Dorchester Museum in Summerville SC. The Best Friend of Charleston was on temporary loan to Norfolk Southern for display in their Atlanta GA office and was returning home to Charleston SC.

The Best Friend of Charleston is a replica of the original train that ran from Charleston to Summerville in 1830. The train was constructed from the original plans in 1928 to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the “South Carolina Canal and Rail Road Company.” The “Best Friend” was eventually donated to the City of Charleston by Norfolk Southern in 1993.

Jaydon’s long day with mommy and daddy

Our day started out with breakfast at Cracker Barrel. Jaydon got to play with some of the toys before going in to eat.

Jaydon loves playing with the toys at Cracker Barrel.

Next we went to the Cooper River Library where Farmer Jason played guitar and sang to the children. Jaydon got up and danced around the room.

Our next stop was the Honda dealership so daddy could get the car’s oil changed. Jaydon played in the kids room at the dealership.

After getting the oil changed mommy wanted to go to a consignment shop so Jaydon and Daddy decided to go geocaching. Luckily there was one nearby.

By now Jaydon had been up over 6 hours and ended up falling asleep in the car.

I was wondering why it was quiet back there.

While Jaydon sleepted we drove over to Mount Pleasant. There we all had lunch at Purée Organic Café. The food was unusual but good. Jaydon got to try a Green Clean Smoothie.

Jaydon and Daddy play in the sand and surf at Folly Beach

Charleston has some of the best beaches but if I had to choose just one I’d definitely go with Folly Beach. Folly Beach is on Folly Island, in Charleston County, South Carolina. Even the town is called Folly Beach. Folly is definitely a beach town with parades, shops, restaurants, vacation rentals, boating, a huge fishing pier and several miles of white sandy beaches.

Jaydon, Mommy, and our friend Ryan headed out to the beach first. I was still working but after I got off I soon joined them.

When I got to the beach I found Jaydon had been playing in the sand. He was covered from head to toe.

I quickly changed and then Jaydon and I headed out to the water. Jaydon was hesitant at first. This was not his first time at the beach but it was his first time getting into the water. After some coaching and reassuring that it was going to be OK, Jaydon joined me in the water.

I lifted Jaydon into the air as the waves passed by.

Jaydon had a blast. He laughed and playing in the sand and surf.

When we were done Mommy and I wrapped Jaydon up in a towel so he could stay warm. He sat patiently as we got everything together in preparations to go home.

We were thrilled Jaydon loved to beach. We are already making plans to go the water park next. I know we will love that too.

Jaydon asks that you donate to the Red Cross, give blood

Even though he is far too young to give blood Jaydon could not resist the opportunity to get a sticker. So when he saw no one was at the registration table Jaydon ran up to the Red Cross volunteers and with a tone of innocence in his voice the two-year-old posed the question, “sticker?”

The American Red Cross and local media was conducting a blood drive at Northwoods Mall in North Charleston, SC today. The volunteers at the registration table thought Jaydon was cute and asked his name then wrote it onto a donation sticker. Jaydon was very happy.

Jaydon, mommy and daddy have been very lucky not to need the Red Cross but there are thousands of others who are not so lucky. That’s why you need to help by giving blood or donating a little from your pocket. You never know, one day you may need their help.

How to Donate Blood

Simply call 1-800-RED CROSS (1-800-733-2767) or visit redcrossblood.org to make an appointment or for more information. All blood types are needed to ensure a reliable supply for patients. Blood can be safely donated every 56 days. Platelets can be given every seven days, up to 24 times a year. Most healthy people who are 17 years of age (16 with parental consent) and weigh at least 110 pounds are eligible to donate blood to the Red Cross. Donors who are 18 years and younger must also meet specific height and weight requirements. A Red Cross blood donor card or driver’s license, or two other forms of identification, are required at check-in.
